The National Historian is responsible for preparing, publishing, and preserving historical data pertaining to the Fifth Division, the Society and its Annual Reunions, and the deeds of the officers and men thereof. The National Historian administers and maintains the historical research archive for the Red Diamond Division and the Society. He is the custodian of the History of the Fifth Division, and renders an annual accounting and report to the Society. Appointments to do research in the archive are arranged through the National Historian.

About Us

The Society of the Fifth Division, United States Army was created by the World War I veterans of the Fifth Division at the Fifth Division Headquarters in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, on the eleventh and thirteenth of June 1919. It had some 18,000 members on its early membership roster. It is the oldest United States military unit organization with a continued existence from its beginnings to present day.
